Overcoming Operational Challenges in Asthma and COPD Studies

In the last decade, inflammatory disease drug development has shifted from addressing organ-related symptoms to a more holistic method that involves understanding the pathology and mechanisms behind this group of related diseases. This shift has also impacted how clinical studies evaluate the underlying causes of respiratory diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). While the approach has shown promise and resulted in several breakthrough treatments, sponsors still face many additional operational challenges to successfully run these specialized studies.
